Allah tests you because he loves you - Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya - Al-Hadîth Editions

In this epistle, which in fact constitutes a chapter of the book "The Tricks of Satan" translated in full by al-Hadîth, Ibn al-Qayyim outlines an explanation of the evil that affects human beings and their relationship with God.

He explains that the trials that affect us all, to varying degrees and in various ways, are one of the main manifestations of Allah's love for the believer. This might seem strange to human beings who only conceive of good in goods and perpetual happiness, but Ibn al-Qayyim convinces us here, with supporting evidence, that if Allah U tests us, it is out of mercy towards us and love for us.

The author then details what real happiness is and to whom Allah U grants it, before citing several notions of the utmost importance to understand why believers are tested, sometimes harshly, and what is the share of the sins of believers in the misfortunes which affect them.
